Egg Throwing at the Soviet Monument in Budapest

Eggs were thrown on Tuesday morning at people taking part at the Soviet memorial in Budapest. The victims of the egg throwing were mainly old people taking part at the remembrance organized by the 'Hungarian Resistance and Anti-Fascist Union' (MEASZ).

About 20 demonstrators standing outside of the security cordons surrounding the memorial disturbed the event by generating noise and shouting insults at the participants. After a while a demonstrator started throwing eggs which, according to the Hungarian AP (MTI), hit the face of many participants. The violent demonstrator was handcuffed by police, and with two of his partners were turned out.

As known, in the past few weeks various organizations (many of them belonging to the extreme-right) have started to campaign for the removal of the Soviet military memorial from the center of Budapest and are petitioning the government to do so. Members of 'Fidesz' have also signed the petition.

Viktor Orbán (leader of Fidesz) also spoke out against the Gyurcsány governments reliance on Russian gas a few days ago.
